Sake-Steamed Shrimp and Cabbage Rice Bowl
A light and aromatic bowl featuring tender cabbage and succulent shrimp infused with the delicate sweetness of sake.
Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice
- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup sake
- 1 tbsp oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1.5 cups water
Instructions
The sake creates a fragrant steam that softens the cabbage and seasons the shrimp perfectly.
- Combine rice, water, and a pinch of salt in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until water is absorbed.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add sliced cabbage to the skillet and sauté for 3 minutes until it begins to wilt.
- Add shrimp to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1 minute.
- Pour sake into the pan and immediately cover with a lid. Steam for 2–3 minutes until shrimp are opaque and cooked through.
- Fluff the rice and divide into bowls. Top with the shrimp and cabbage, drizzling any remaining sake liquid from the pan over the dish.
Serve with a sprinkle of freshly cracked black pepper.
